Chapter 3: Music and Guns Go Hand in Hand

 

Songs popular with U.S. soldiers in World War I—a.k.a. “doughboys”—included both war-related songs (“There’s a Long, Long Trail”) and popular songs of the day (“K-k-Katy”). As with other wars, soldiers generally did not sing the most militaristic songs of the home front, like “Over There,” as they already were over there.
